A method for producing a chain system whose movements are not restricted into one plane has each element with a spherical end face (16) which sits into a spherical recess of the next element. The connecting means comprise a swivel axis inside each element connected to a spherical retaining grip inside the next element. The connecting apertures in the elements permit a limited amount of movement in any direction. The swivel axes inside the elements are set on plane inner faces and the elements have plane outer faces for aligning with guide flanges etc.
