PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel organic electroluminescent element which can utilize energy transferred to a triplet exciton for light emission and emit blue light. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode and one or more organic compound layers held by the positive electrode and the negative electrode. At least one layer of the organic compound layers contains at least one of compound represented by general formula (1). In formula (1), R1 is aryl group which may have lower alkyl group or substituent group. R2 is a methyl group or trifluoromethyl group. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
