PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium cartridge and its recording and reproducing device which easily prove authenticity of recorded data. SOLUTION: The CRC (cyclic redundancy checking) code C1 of the data D1 recorded on a magnetic tape MT is recorded in the cartridge memory 2 of a magnetic tape cartridge 1 in a state in which the CRC code C1 is not rewritable. Then, a recording and reproducing device 3 compares a CRC code C1 from the magnetic tape MT with the CRC code C1 from the cartridge memory 2 in reproduction and it proves the authenticity of the data D1 based on the result of comparison.
