PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact authentication device capable of carrying out the image pickup of an iris image and a visible light image without imposing any more labor on a user, or separately providing any mechanism for switching. SOLUTION: This image pickup element is provided with a line formed with a color filter for transmitting a light beam in a visible light area on a photoelectric conversion element and a line formed with an infrared filter for transmitting a light beam in a near infrared area on the photoelectric conversion element are alternately arrayed, a signal distributing part 4 for distributing an output signal from the image pickup element 3 to a visible light signal and a near infrared signal for each line, a visible light signal processing part 7 for converting the visible light signal into a video signal, a near infrared signal processing part 8 for converting the near infrared signal into a video signal, and a control part 17 for controlling the distribution of the signal of the signal distributing part.
