PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk array apparatus continuously operable even if trouble with software occurs and successively operable by returning to the state of control before the trouble occurs and recovering to such a state that copes with trouble with hardware and trouble with the software. SOLUTION: This disk array apparatus forming an RAID1 system for writing the same data therein by using two units of disk devices (master HDD1, master HDD2) as a set comprises an additional backup HDD3. The data stored in the master HDD1 and HDD2 normally used for each time set by users is written also in the backup HDD3. Thus, even if the trouble occurs with the software, the apparatus can be continuously operated by returning to the point of backup. Since the apparatus has, as a tentative measure, a function for using the backup HDD3 as a normally used master HDD, the continuous operation can be performed even when the trouble occurs with the software.
