PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel economy by operating a gas engine with increased thermal efficiency.
SOLUTION: Whether or not the gas engine for driving a compressor deteriorates with time to cause a reduced output state wherein output torque is insufficient to disable engine speed from reaching a request speed under full throttle travel is determined according to an operating state grasped from throttle travel and engine speed. In a reduced output state, an electromagnetic clutch is actuated to drive an alternator with gas engine power and thus supply a driving current to an electric supercharger. A bypass valve is also controlled to connect a bypass intake pipe to a main exhaust pipe. The electric supercharger then supercharges the gas engine via the bypass intake pipe. For a maximum value of torque requested by the compressor, the gas engine of an unconventionally small displacement can be used for operation with throttle travel nearer to a full level, to thereby reduce pumping loss during operation.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
