An output optical fiber (34) transmits the radiation emitted from a measurement cell (12) to a detector (36). The detector detects radiation at each wavelength and outputs a signal representative of intensity of radiation at each wavelength for comparison with predetermined absorption data. A compensator (64) compensates the thermal variations within the measurement cell. An independent claim is also included for exhaust gas measuring method.
