PURPOSE: A method for recording the last call date in the phone book of a portable phone is provided to add a last call date field to the phone book of a portable phone, to update the last call date when the user makes or receives a call, and to display the last call date in case that the user makes a request to search the phone book. CONSTITUTION: A last call date field is added to the phone book of a portable phone. In case that the user of the portable phone makes or receives a call, the portable phone updates the last call date of the last call date field. If the user pushes the menu button, menu items are displayed. If the user selects 'last call date setup' among the displayed menu items and pushes an OK selection button, the portable phone displays a menu item to set up the range of the last call date.
