PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide accurate character recognition equipment capable of recognizing hand-written characters based on touched up information, a character recognition method, and a program for making a computer execute the method. SOLUTION: The character recognition equipment comprises a character recognition part 103 for recognizing the characters based on the inputted hand-written characters, a certainty determination part 104 obtaining a certainty indicating the degree of matching of the features of the hand-written characters to the features of the characters recognized by the character recognition part and comparing the certainty with a specified reference value, and a coordinate information change part 105 applying a deformation treatment to the hand-written characters when the certainty is determined to be lower than the specified reference value by the certainty determination part and inputting again the characters to the character recognition part.
