Process for monitoring the clamping pressure exerted by an actuating cylinder (21) which clamps an electrode (31) in an electric furnace involves continuously measuring the clamping pressure using a pressure cell (41) assigned to the cylinder and impinged by a clamping pressure, and transmitting the measured values to a display. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above process.
