PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated steel sheet superior in battery characteristics, and a battery case using the steel sheet. SOLUTION: The battery case is obtained by forming the surface treated steel sheet having an indium layer on the top surface corresponding to an inner surface of the battery case made of a plated base sheet comprising a steel sheet, with the deep-drawing method, the DI forming method or the DTR forming method.
