PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording material which can increase the memory capacity and record information not only on the surface but in the depth direction. SOLUTION: When the optical recording material is exposed to chemical rays, the exposed region of the recording material suffers changes in its optical characteristics and provides an information pattern to record and output the information by the above changes. The material comprises (a) a polymer having a covalently coupled reactant which chemically transforms during electron oxidation and can cause changes in the optical characteristics in the exposed region, and (b) a sensitizer which can absorb chemical rays to induce the initial single electron oxidation of the reactant.
