A lubricating composition which comprises a base oil for a lubricating oil and (A) at least one compound selected from among specific esters of phosphonic acid and salts thereof or the above lubricating composition which further comprises (B) at least one compound selected from among metal salts of specific esters of phosphoric acid. The lubricating composition is of low phosphorus and low sulfur type and is excellent in oxidation stability, the retention of the base number, wear resistance, extreme pressure characteristics and corrosion preventive property, and thus can be suitably used, in particular, as a lubricating oil for an internal combustion engine. |
