Apparatus for centring and rotating work comprises a set of jaws 36 pivoted about axes spaced from the work-centre and extending nearly to the centre so that they may be moved to grip work of small cross-section. Two sets of jaws are carried by pivot spindles 20 on a carrier 13 rotated by a gear 27 and a motor 26 controlled by a switch 34 and a speed-control 35. The connection between the gear 27 and carrier 13 is by way of links 29 pivoted to links 31 attached to the spindles 20, rotation of the carrier being resisted by friction bands adjusted by a clamp and spring assembly 38. The direction of rotation may be reversed as shown in Fig. 10 (not shown). The threading head 55 is movable by a manual control 57. The end of a pipe is reamed internally by a pointed reamer 50 having two ribs 52, Fig. 13 (not shown), having edges 51 to cut in either direction of rotation of the pipe.</p> |
