PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive/negative hybrid optical retardation film.

SOLUTION: The positive/negative hybrid optical retardation film with an excellent angle of view is obtained by coating a solution consisting of a discotic liquid crystal and a rod-shaped liquid crystal on an alignment layer rubbing-processed in the one direction on a substrate, then heating the coating layer and preparing a uniformly arranged film consisting of the discotic liquid crystal and the rod-shaped liquid crystal, and making to cure by irradiating UV light to the film. The positive/negative hybrid optical retardation film can be applied to a liquid crystal element and a liquid crystal device.
