A holder for a magnetic transfer device comprising a first holder portion and a second holder portion which are movable toward and away from each other. Between the first and second holder portions, there is formed an interior space where a master carrier with information is held in intimate contact with a slave medium. At least one of the first and second holder portions has an interior pressing surface provided with an elastic member having elastic characteristics. The elastic member has a deformation quantity of 5 to 500 mum in a pressure-applied direction when pressure is applied.
