PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair treatment agent which forms a flexible film, gives natural texture and has excellent hair-set retentivity. SOLUTION: This hair treatment agent comprises a polysaccharide derivative with constituent monosaccharide units represented by formula (1), wherein Q is a residue after removing hydroxy groups from the constituent monosaccharide unit of the polysaccharide; Z<SP>1</SP>is R<SP>1</SP>-COOX, R<SP>1</SP>-SO<SB>3</SB>X, R<SP>1</SP>-OPO<SB>3</SB>X<SB>2</SB>, (R<SP>1</SP>O)k-R<SP>2</SP>or (CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>N)p-R<SP>2</SP>: R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkylene; R<SP>2</SP>is H or a 1-4C alkyl; X is H or a cationic counter ion; (k) and (p) are each an integer of 1-200; Z<SP>2</SP>is R<SP>3</SP>, C(=O)R<SP>3</SP>or C(=O)NHR<SP>3</SP>(wherein R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-24C aliphatic hydrocarbon group); (q) is the number of hydroxy groups of the constituent monosaccharide unit; (m) is an integer of 0-3 with an average of≤2.0; (n) is an integer of 0-3 with an average of≤2.5, provided that the averages of (m) and (n) are not 0 at the same time; and each of a plurality of Z<SP>1</SP>or Z<SP>2</SP>may be the same or different.
