PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of executing a series of operations of a recovering unit irrespective of the position of a print head without providing driving means for a special purpose for the unit and without necessity of an origin detector. SOLUTION: The part to be engaged of a carriage 6 is engaged with the engaging protrusion 52a of a movable support member 52 by the movement of the carriage 6 to a recovering area, and the member 52 is moved. The engaging part 52b is detachably engaged with the engaging protrusion 44a of a second engaging lever 44, and a lever member 42 is rotated. The engagement of the end engaging part 43a of the lever 43 with the part 32b to be locked of the board 32 of a pump cam gear 26 is disengaged by the rotation of the member 42. The gear 26 is rotated by the spring force by the disengagement, engaged with the drive gear, and thereafter a wiping unit, a purging unit and a suction pump are driven. |
