PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide manganese dioxide crystal having a crystal structure capable of increasing the capacity of a battery material, useful as a lithium battery material, an electronic material or the like and having a new crystal structure, and a manufacturing method of the same.

SOLUTION: The manganese dioxide crystal having a rock salt crystal structure is obtained by using lithium manganese oxide LiMnO2having a rhombic crystal structure as a starting material and eliminating lithium ion electrochemically or by a chemical oxidation means using an acid or an oxidizing agent.
