PRODUCTION METHOD FOR ACTIVATED CARBON, POLARIZABLE ELECTRODE AND ELECTRIC DOUBLE LAYER CAPACITOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an activated carbon which is highly densified without lowering the capacitance per unit weight and has a high capacitance per unit volume.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the activated carbon comprises performing a primary mixing treatment of a carbonaceous material and an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonizing the primary mixture, secondarily mixing the carbonized material with the alkali metal hydroxide, and activating the secondary mixture. The amount of the alkali metal hydroxide used in the primary mixing treatment is 0.01-0.5 times the weight of the carbonaceous material, and that in the secondary mixing is 0.5-4 times the weight of the carbonized material.
