摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the stable and precise positioning operation by forming a recording medium of one side two layers by combining patterned media and a conventional magnetic disk, and cooperatively carrying out a continuous servo operation by using a lower recording layer and a discrete servo operation by using an upper recording layer. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk 11 is a patterned medium having discrete magnetic bits which are regularly arranged thereon and which have the shape and size artificially arranged, and is provided with: an upper recording layer 12 furnished with both of a servo area and a data area; a lower recording layer 13 equivalent to the conventional magnetic disk having the whole surface formed of continuous servo areas; and a separation layer 14 for preventing the magnetic interference of both recording layers. The three layers are stacked on one side of a substrate 15. Data on the upper recording layer and data on the lower recording layer are simultaneously reproduced with one magnetic head, and the positioning of the magnetic head is carried out by cooperatively carrying out the continuous servo operation based on the data written into the lower recording layer and the discrete servo operation based on the data of the servo area on the upper recording layer.
