PURPOSE: A compressor with an improved valve plate is provided to prevent noise due to opening and closing of a valve with relatively inexpensive cost. CONSTITUTION: A compressor includes a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinders formed therein to allow pistons to be inserted therein in such a manner that the pistons reciprocate therein as a rotary shaft rotates; cylinder heads coupled to at least one of front ends and rear ends of the cylinder blocks, and having discharge chambers and suction chambers; and a valve unit(50) placed between the cylinder head and an end of the cylinder block. The valve unit has a valve plate(51) having an outlet(51a) and an inlet(51b) connected with the discharge chamber and the suction chamber of the cylinder head, respectively, and a penetrating block(60) formed with different material and placed on at least one of the outlet and the inlet; a discharge valve(56) coupled to one side of the valve plate to open and close the outlet with a discharge reed(56a) thereof; and a suction valve(57) coupled to the other side of the valve plate to open and close the inlet with a suction reed(57b) thereof.
