The internal combustion engine has a device for the feed and delivery of combustion gas in the gas and air mixture flowing through a mixture pipe (5). On the inlet side the engine has a flame impact resistance device (7a-7e) with two flame filters located one behind the other to form a chamber in between them, and the combustion gas is introduced into this chamber. The chamber has at least one combustion gas distribution pipe. A regulating element (14a-14e) is fitted in the combustion gas feed pipe (15). An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the running of a gas operated internal combustion engine in which combustion gas is fed to the gas and air mixture flowing through a mixture pipe in dependence upon the operating regimes of the engine.
