PURPOSE: To provide a cold cathode lamp with high brightness, a long lifetime and a short non-light emitting part, and an electronic equipment using this cold cathode lamp. CONSTITUTION: As for the cold cathode lamp to which an electrode 3 is mounted on both end parts of a glass tube 1, having rare gas or rare gas and mercury vapor sealed therein, at least a surface of the electrode 3 is constituted of nitride of titanium(Ti), zirconium(Zr), hafnium(Hf), niobium(Nb) or tantalum(Ta). This electrode 3 is constituted by applying nitriding treatment on the surface of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb or Ta, or by composing the electrode itself by the nitride of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb or Ta, or by covering the surface of another metal by the nitride of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb or Ta.
