PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio system which can be used as an interface with a user by converting a folder number in a recording medium. SOLUTION: A number assigning part 112 of a control part 11 reads information recorded in an inserted CD 30 at the read part 12 and, if compressed music data are recorded in the CD 30 and there exists a folder under a root directory, displays a value of (the folder No. recorded in the CD 30 minus 1) in a display part 13 as its folder number, and executes processing by recognizing a value of (a folder number inputted by a user for specifying a folder number to play plus 1) as the folder number recorded in the CD 30.
