A vacuum deep drawing unit, comprises a deep drawing tool (1) composed of a half shell section (5) of low material strength, and a solid wall (23). The inside (6) of the tool can be ventilated to enable pressures to be equalised. A vacuum can be applied between a plate or film and the outside of the tool, to form the material. The vacuum is applied via penetrations or grooves (9,10) which are connected to the inside of the tool. The tool consists of aluminium, and coolant passes between the inner shell and the half shell section.
