<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the characteristics of elasticity of a medium with ultrasonic images, particularly to measure them by estimating the variation in speckle patterns using ultrasonic images. <P>SOLUTION: A measuring instrument that uses ultrasonic wave images for measuring the characteristics of elasticity of the medium comprises a means for applying vibration to the medium, a means for acquiring a plurality of ultrasonic image frames from the vibrated medium, a means for calculating the time variation in brightness of speckle patterns relative to fixed pixels in the plurality of image frames, and a means for measuring the elasticity of the medium based on the calculated variation in brightness of speckle patterns. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
