PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of performing printing with good balance on a plurality of optical recording media having different sizes. SOLUTION: A tray 21 on which a plurality of optical recording media 70a-70c can be selectively loaded, is movably provided to a case 1 of the printer. A printing section 35 that performs the printing by reciprocating a carriage 41 having a thermal head 42 mounted thereon in a predetermined portion is provided in the case 1. The type of the optical recording medium loaded to the tray 21 is detected by a medium detecting switch, then the tray 21 and the carriage 41 are moved to a printing region set corresponding to the type of the optical recording medium and the printing is performed.
