The invention relates to an arrangement comprising a control device (5) for releasing a retaining system in a vehicle, and a state detection device (3) such as a seat occupancy device. A data set (13) derived from said seat occupancy device indicating the presence or non-presence of a state is transmitted to the control device (5). According to the invention, a defined stimulation signal (12) is transmitted from the control device (5) to the state detection device which then transmits a second data set (14) to the control device (5) corresponding to the type properties or type data. Type data can be detected even if the state detection device (3) is mounted in a motor vehicle.
