PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient process for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate through solid-phase polymerization in the presence of inert gas circulation. SOLUTION: In the process, the aromatic polycarbonate is prepared by subjecting a crystallized aromatic polycarbonate to polycondensation reaction through solid-phase polymerization in the presence of inert gas circulation under a reaction pressure of 15-1,000 kPa. The inert gas exhausted from a reactor is successively circulated through an apparatus for collecting the finely-powdered aromatic polycarbonate and an apparatus for separating condensable components.
