PARTICULATE FILTER HAVING ELECTRIC HEATER, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter to permit combustion of deposited particulate at a low temperature and at a low power consumption, and a method for manufacturing the filter.

SOLUTION: A carbon black filter (23) has a heater (17) to burn deposited carbon black. The particulate filter (23) has several filter surfaces (12), and the filter surfaces carry a catalyst coating (21) to cover small portions of the filter surfaces. The catalyst coating (21) is structured so as to bring oxidation of carbon black at a temperature lower than the ignition temperature. Combustion is started by the heater (17).
