PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemical sensitization method for silver halide particles in an aqueous dispersion. SOLUTION: The photothermographic material includes a base and a photoaddressable thermally developable element exclusive of a compound R-S(M)<SB>n</SB>or a compound capable of releasing mobile dyes corresponding to the reduction of the silver halide to silver at an elevated temperature or conversely corresponding thereto. Here, R is aliphatic hydrocarbon, aryl or heterocyclic group; M is a hydrogen atom or cation; and a character (n) is a number so determined as to make the molecule neutral. The material contains a photosensitive agent of the photoaddressable thermally developable element having a catalytic association with a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent having a thermal effect relation therewith for the purpose of the non-photosensitive organic silver salt and a binder and therefore has the enhanced photosensitivity.
