<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated detection method and apparatus for lesion, such as distorted image of mass and/or tissue (substantial tissue deformation) in a medical image, such as mammography. <P>SOLUTION: A step for discriminating the high density part of an image comprises a step (a) for discriminating an anatomical high density part in a breast image and a step (b) for processing a high density part. It is composed of a step (I) for positioning a subject region on an image, close to at least one of borders between a chest wall and a breast among the images comprising a plurality of pixels, a step (II) for acquiring the gray level histogram of a first pixel, a step (III) for acquiring a second gray level histogram, and a step (IV) for acquiring a gray level threshold, for enhancing visualization of the mammogram image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
