PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file system capable of managing a larger number of files while maintaining compatibility with a file system in which the number of data files to be managed is smaller than the number of files recordable in a recording medium. SOLUTION: Subfile management information 105 and subfiles 106a to 106d are recorded in a subfile region. The subfiles 106a to 106d and the subfile management information 105 are managed as a single file 104d along with files 104a to 104c by using main file management information 103.
