PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving an ink jet head which can accelerate a printing speed when one pixel print of a predetermined density is conducted by discharging a plurality of times ink liquid droplets and which can express a gradation of a density more finely by many steps. SOLUTION: An ink jet head drive control device 1 of the ink jet head of an ink jet printer prints one pixel in different densities by discharging once or twice small mass of the ink liquid droplet and by discharging once or twice large mass of the ink liquid droplet. As compared with the case that the ink liquid droplets of the same mass are discharged and one pixel of the same density is printed, the number of times of discharging the ink liquid droplet is reduced and the printing speed can be accelerated.
