PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chroma key device for extracting an object image even from a picture where nuance is produced at the background by shadow etc or a picture where the color of the section near the profile in the object image is the color of the background. SOLUTION: The chroma key device comprises a means 110 for matching each pixel with a coordinate point in 3-dimensional color space having coordinate axes of signal components for each pixel; a means 120 for generating average, variance, and covariance for coordinates of the coordinate point matched with a pixel; a means 130 for generating a Mahalanobis distance based on these information; a means 140 for determining whether the Mahalanobis distance is within a predetermined threshold or not; and a means 150 for allocating a first signal of binary signal to a pixel determined to have the Mahalanobis distance equal to or less than the threshold, and allocating a second signal other than the first signal of binary signal to a pixel determined to have the Mahalanobis distance over the threshold.
