PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital photographing apparatus capable of reducing the processing time for correcting an optical distortion. SOLUTION: An image processing circuit 60, for processing digital image data, comprises a first distortion correction circuit 56 capable of processing in a short period of time though having low correction precision, and a second distortion correction circuit 58 requiring a longer processing time though it having higher correction precision. The distortion correction circuit used for correction is switched by a CPU 48 according to whether a still picture mode or a moving picture mode is selected. When the still picture mode is selected, the distortion correction circuit is also switched during a series of sequential processing for a still picture, according to the processing step. More specifically, only upon the actual still picture (when the still image shooting mode is selected and a release button is fully pressed), the second distortion correction circuit 58 is selected for precisely correcting an optical distortion, and in the other case, the first distortion correction circuit 56 is selected.
