PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously, efficiently and inexpensively performing the harmlessness of an organic halogen compound as an environmental pollutant by hydrogenation, and to provide an apparatus for performing the same. SOLUTION: As for the method and apparatus for decomposing an organic halogen compound, in an electrolytic cell having an anode and a cathode consisting of a hydrogen storage material, the side opposite to the an electrolytic face in the cathode is partitioned as reaction chamber, and the dehalogenation of an organic halogen compound in the reaction chamber is performed with atomic hydrogen generated at the cathode and penetrated to the reaction chamber. The cathode can be hydrogen storage metallic foil. Alternatively, the one obtained by using an ion exchange membrane or a porous membrane as a support and forming a hydrogen storage material layer having liquid impermeability on the surface in the reaction chamber side can be used. A catalytic layer is preferably formed thereon. A polar solvent is preferably added to the inside of the reaction chamber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
