A package for storing medical devices in a soloution, in particular contact lenses, comprises a cavity formed in a molded base (10), a flange (22) extending outwardly from the periphery of a cavity, and a flexible cover she et (40) superimposed over the top surface (20) of the flange (22) and detachabl y sealed thereto, wherein an inner surface (13) of the cavity has sufficient roughness so that a medical device contained within the enclosure formed between the inner surface (13) and the flexible cover sheet (40) floats free ly in the solution (18).
