PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition in which a laminar clay mineral is homogeneously and finely dispersed in a vinylic resin and which has excellent mechanical physical properties, solvent resistance and transparency. SOLUTION: This resin composition is characterized by comprising the copolymer of a vinylic monomer with an isocyanate group-containing monomer and an organic laminar clay mineral dispersed in the copolymer, inserting a part of the copolymer into spaces between the layers of the mineral clay mineral to cause an interlaminar separation, and having an interlaminar distance of≥100Å. The method for producing the resin composition is characterized by mixing 100 pts. wt. of a monomer mixture comprising the vinylic monomer and the isocyanate group-containing monomer, 10 to 100 pts. wt. of the organic laminar clay mineral and 0.005 to 5 pts. wt. of a polymerization initiator with an organic solvent, applying an external action to the mixture to partially insert the monomer mixture, the polymerization initiator and the organic solvent into spaces between the layers of the organic laminar clay mineral, and then removing the solvent to polymerize the monomers.
