Testing substances for hormonal effects using cells transfected with vector DNA encoding a nuclear receptor protein and with vector DNA encoding the comodulator FOXG1C comprises exposing the cells to a substance and measuring the nuclear receptor transcription activity and/or the effect of the substance on the interaction between the receptor and comodulator. An Independent claim is also included for detecting disorders in the comodulation mechanism between androgen receptors and FOXG1C by measuring the concentration of FOXG1C and/or androgen receptor.
