The air inlet circuit (14) for an i.c. engine (12) super charged by a compressor (18) has an inlet manifold (34) with elements (46, 48) shaped to produce a laminar air flow. The volume of the inlet manifold is equivalent to three-quarters of the engine cylinder capacity, so that the primary incident lengthwise wave is partially transmitted to the air inlet duct (32) in the form of a secondary incident lengthwise wave which is reflected from the cooler (28) and produces a second vibration mode.
