To improve the water quality of acid mining residue ponds, etc., the sediment is broken up by cutting heads or jet units which swing horizontally and vertically with a power rating of 15-250 kW and at a gap of up to 50 m from suction units. One or more pumps are used with a discharge capacity of 100-4000 m3>/hour and a total power rating of 50-1500 kW. A flushing system has floating and/or shore based flexible pipes with a diameter of 50-500 mm and a total length of 50-4000 m, with openings for flushing over and/or under the water surface or the shore ground. The total discharge volume, the solid content in the water, and the pH value are measured. A container truck has a pneumatic distributor to deliver a solid or liquid alkali material. A static buffer store has a capacity of 5-100 m3>, and a pneumatic fan or compressor discharge is used for the buffer store and/or container truck, and a flexible hose is between the container and the injector/mixer.
