Heading E2B A fastener device for securing an article to an apertured support comprises a resilient sleeve 2 having a male fastener member 3 assembled therewith, the sleeve including a body portion 4 adapted to be passed through the aperture and an integral peripheral flange 5 at one end of the sleeve formed of resilient material, for engaging one face of the support and forming a resilient mounting for the article to be secured, the fastener member comprising a shank having a head 8 at one end which head is anchored within the body portion of the sleeve in spaced relation to the flange, the shank extending axially within the body portion and projecting outwardly of the end of the sleeve beyond the flange for receiving a co-operating female fastener member e.g. a nut, at least the part of the body portion of the sleeve adjacent the flange being formed of material which when compressed axially expands radially and the arrangement being such that when the fastener device is assembled in the aperture in the support with the flange of the body portion abutting one face and an axial force is applied to the shank by the female fastener member to draw the end of the sleeve remote from the flange towards the support, the sleeve will be deformed to provide a bulbous formation overlying and resiliently engaging the opposite face of the support to that engaged by the flange. The shank of the fastener member includes a threaded portion 10 and two unthreaded portions 11, 12 the unthreaded portion 11 being between the portions 10 and 12 and being of somewhat smaller diameter than the threaded portion so that over-tightening of the female fastener is prevented since it rotates freely when it reaches the portion 11. The head is joined to the portion 12 by fins 9 to prevent rotation of the fastener member relative to the sleeve. The whole of the body portion of the sleeve is formed of elastomeric material, the portion adjacent the head of the fastener member being harder than the remainder of the sleeve to anchor the fastener member securely to prevent the head from being drawn through the sleeve when the cooperating female fastener member is tightened up on the shank. In a modification the sleeve is composed of a plurality of integral layers of resilient material having different degrees of hardness. Alternatively the sleeve is made from a single material. |
