PURPOSE: A method of determining a CQ(Channel Quality) report period for reporting downlink CQ in a communication system using an HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) system and a method therefor are provided to determine a CQI(Channel Quality Indicator) report period with information identified in each communication object, and to determine the period in consideration of many parameters, thereby determining an optimal CQI report period and improving system performance. CONSTITUTION: An SRNC(Serving Radio Network Controller) determines a CQI report period 'k' value recommended for a CRNC(Controlling Radio Network Controller)(101). The SRNC transmits the determined recommended 'k' value to the CRNC(102). The CRNC detects the recommended 'k' value, and determines a final 'k' value(103). The CRNC transmits the determined 'k' value to a node B through a radio link setup request message(104). The node B transmits a radio link setup response message to the CRNC(105). The CRNC transmits the 'k' value to the SRNC through the radio link setup response message(106). The SRNC detects the 'k' value, and transmits the value to a UE(User Element) through a radio bearer setup message(107). The UE newly sets the 'k' value at CQI report period, and transmits a radio bearer setup complete message to the SRNC(108).
