PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce vibration damping members of stable quality having a viscous elastic body without deteriorating its vibration damping performance. SOLUTION: The vibration damping member 10 is provided with a first layer 12 made from a viscous elastic body, a second layer 14 made of metal and an intermediate layer 16, which has rigidity higher than that of the first layer 12 and lower than that of the second layer 14 and is interposed between the first and second layers 12 and 14. The intermediate layer 16 is provided with a ring-like edge section 18 which is overhung from an outer peripheral edge 14a toward the outside over the whole of the outer peripheral edge 14a of the second layer 14. The vibration damping member 10 can be manufactured by punching a layered material into a specified shape without shearing the material of the second layer 14. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
