<p>A novel protein and encoding nucleic acid of the parasite, Echinococcus granulosus, are provided. The novel protein is expressed by all life cycle stages of Echinococcus granulosus or tape worm. The novel protein and nucleic acid may be useful in the detection of Echinococcus granulosus, the cause of hydatid disease, in humans and animals. More particularly, it is proposed that the recombinant protein may be used for serodiagnosis of hydatid antibodies in humans and animals and as a novel vaccine for the prevention and treatment of hydatid disease.</p> |
