A self-extinguishing moulding material based on a copolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, or copolymerizable derivatives thereof, is prepared by adding pulverulent red phosphorus to an aqueous latex of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, blending the resultant mixture, with agitation, with an aqueous latex of butadiene/acrylonitrile/styrene graft polymer, precipitating the resulting copolymer - graft copolymer mixture and isolating it. In examples, red phosphorus is added to an agitated latex of styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer and the mixture further blended with a graft copolymer latex obtained by grafting styrene/acrylonitrile on a butadiene/ acrylonitrile copolymer.
