The invention is a protection device to be inserted as or in a household power outlet as a connection between the household power supply and an electrical appliance. The protection device is equipped with a female socket (with or without ground terminal) for connection of the electric appliance which should be protected against unintended operation by inexperienced individuals such as small children. The control key of the protection device is to be activated while the connected appliance is being switched on. The control key is then released and the appliance can be operated with. In case the appliance is switched off for more than approximately 10 seconds (reactivation time) the protection device will break the power to the appliance and the appliance will be unable to start by activating the start switch. The reactivation timer enables stop and start of the appliance with short intervals without the need for activating the control key on the protection device provided that the time the appliance is shut off is shorter than the reactivation time. An electrical appliance being connected with the start switch activated will not be able to start by activation of the control key. Establishing of power supply to the appliance will only be possible if the start switch of the appliance is off.
