<p>An apparatus (110) for releasably attaching a closure plate (120) to an open end of a cylindrical casing (130), the apparatus (110) having an inner member (160); a threaded outer ring (150) biased in tension, disposed adjacent to the inner member (160), for releasably engaging an interior wall of the casing (130); and a eutectic spacer (170) between the inner member (160) and the outer ring (150). At temperatures below the melting point of the eutectic spacer (170), the outer ring (150) is held in threaded engagement with the casing (130), and holds the closure plate (120) in position in abutment with the casing (130). When the temperature of the eutectic spacer (170) reaches its melting temperature, the eutectic spacer (170) transitions to a liquid state, flows away from the apparatus (110), allowing the outer ring (150) to retract into a groove (254) in the inner member (160), and the closure (120) to be released from the casing (130).</p> |
